Pete & Sheri Ketterman
I (Pete) gave my life to Jesus Christ as a young boy through the influence of my local church and my Christian mother. God faithfully provided me with opportunities to grow in my walk with God through the involvement in the local church from my younger days through my days in the youth group. I was introduced to Campus Outreach through a group of local university students who attended my church when I was in high school. Through these friendships I was given the opportunity to participate in a Summer Beach Project with Campus Outreach in Daytona Beach the summer before I entered college at Georgia Tech. Throughout my years at Tech I was involved with Campus Crusade for Christ, but continued to participate in some summer training projects with Campus Outreach. Upon graduation I began working for Campus Outreach at Augusta State University and then at Georgia Southern University.
I (Sheri) grew up more or less in a Christian environment. Through influence of a local youth group I was exposed to the Bible and Christian things. But it was not until my first year at Georgia College did I realize my need for Christ. It became clear to me through a Bible study that I was participating in and through the lives of Christian friends that although I had previously been exposed to Christian things, I had never truly surrendered my life to Jesus. As this fact became clear to me, I did receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior in December 1993. Over the next few months and years I was able to take advantage of many opportunities with Campus Outreach to grow in my new relationship with God. After graduating I began working with Campus Outreach at the College of Charleston and then at Georgia College.
We got married in March 2003, but over the years God had been moving in our hearts independently to serve him overseas on the university campus. God used several short term mission trips (Pete—Croatia, Serbia, Uganda; Sheri—Thailand) and mission conferences at our local churches to fan this burden in our hearts. When the opportunity was opened for us to be a part of the Campus Outreach Johannesburg team, we were confident that this was where God was leading us for the next phase of our lives.
