What makes CO different from other campus ministries?
There are four main areas that make Campus Outreach distinct from other organizations that minister to college students:
Strategic Campuses
Historically, Campus Outreach has staffed smaller campuses that are strategic for ministry. A typical large university has anywhere from 25 to 40 religious organizations on campus, and smaller schools have often been overlooked by these ministries. The schools we consider have significantly fewer religious organizations, so focusing on these campuses has proven to be an effective way to reach students with the Gospel.
Relationship with the Church
Campus Outreach also believes in a strong relationship with the church. Unlike most campus ministries, Campus Outreach is not a para-church organization. Though we are not connected to one particular denomination, each regional ministry is under the authority and leadership of a regional church body, which provides a crucial source of accountability, leadership and resources. Staff members and students involved with Campus Outreach in other cities and towns become involved in local churches.
Growth Strategy
Campus Outreach has found that the most effective way to grow big is by staying small. Campus Outreach is actually made up of 20 independent "franchises" throughout the world. Once a franchise grows large enough, it launches new staff members to a new campus in another location. From there, Campus Outreach seeks out a regional church to "adopt" Campus Outreach as its college ministry. Once a church agrees and after a period of testing and transition, the new host church assumes all authority and oversight for that franchise. So in essence Campus Outreach is a collection of the 20 college ministries of individual churches which share a common vision and strategy but with no central headquarters or central authority.
Life-on-Life Relationships
Finally, we believe the best spiritual training takes place in the context of relationships. Rather than relying on a program or Bible-study curriculum, we emphasize the importance of life-on-life relationships - one individual sharing his life with another. We are not necessarily only a fellowship group, though fellowship is an important part of our values. We focus primarily on Discipling new and young believers and training them to do the same with their fellow college students. We have a high value for ministry training.

What denomination are you affiliated with?
We are not affiliated with any particular denomination, although our background and much of our doctrine is closely linked to the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA). We partner primarily with churches committed to Biblical reformed theology. In NC, our regional Church is at Christ Covenant Church (PCA), though in other regions we partner with Baptist, Reformed Baptist, and EPC Churches.
Campus Outreach Johannesburg works on the campuses of Univ. of Johannesburg Kingsway Campus and Bunting Road Campus, Univ. of the Witwatersrand, and the Univ. of Pretoria. To find out more information about other campuses with a Campus Outreach franchise, please visit www.campusoutreach.org.
If you are attending school at one of the four campuses listed above, you can locate a staff person by clicking on the campus and that will bring you to the campus page.

Do you ever partner with other Christian ministries on campus?
Occasionally we create or participate in opportunities to join other organizations on campus for an event or outreach.

Do you have a curriculum?
While we do not have a curriculum per se, we do have some standard studies and teaching tools that we believe help to maximize growth opportunities in the lives of the students we are ministering to. Many of these are available in the Resource section of our partner ministry in Charlotte- Click HERE to go to the Resource page on their site.

Our study materials and tools come from many places. Some we have developed over the years, as we have learned what is effectively helping students to grow. Often, though, we choose to use the resources available through the many writers and teacher’s that God has gifted. To see some of our recommended reading and where to get it, click HERE.

Is there a president of Campus Outreach? Why not?
As a ministry, we do not have a president. Campus Outreach has found that the most effective way to grow big is by staying small. We are actually made up of 20 independent "franchises" throughout the world! Each franchise is under the leadership of a Regional Director, who operates under the authority of the local regional church and a governing board.

Funding
How are you funded?
Campus Outreach relies on the faithful giving of thousands of individuals, churches, alumni, businesses and foundations who join us in reaching college students with the gospel.
How much support is each staff member required to raise?
Each Campus Outreach staff person is responsible to raise 100% of his/her salary. Each staff member has a need-based salary that is approved by his/her supervisor and the Campus Outreach Board.
Are the staff Paid the amount that they raise?
No. If a staff person’s support goal is $3000/month, they do not receive $3000/month in pay. In each staff person’s support goal is included their salary, Social Security and Medicaid, Federal and state taxes, Medical, Dental, and Life insurance, admin fees, campus budget fees, and a 20% contingency.
Do my gifts go directly to the staff person of my choice?
Yes. Your gift goes toward the staff person, ministry fund, or special project you designate. In the event that a project is a fully funded or a staff is no longer working for Campus Outreach, your gifts may be redistributed as Campus Outreach sees fit.
Yes! In the USA we are a 501c-3 non-profit organization, so all gifts are tax deductible. For a gift to qualify for a tax deduction, the check must be written to Campus Outreach. In some situations, you may desire to give a personal gift to a staff person. However, if the check is written to that staff person, it is NOT tax-deductible.

When will I get a receipt for my gift?
In the USA we always mail the monthly statements/receipts within the first week of each month. These statements show any gifts that we received before the end of the previous month.
Why does my statement read incorrectly?
Your statement may not be reading incorrectly. It is our desire to give you a clear and accurate record of your giving. We print the monthly statements at the beginning of the month. It will only show your previous month’s giving. Therefore, any gifts you may have sent in the first week of the month will NOT reflect on that month’s statement. If you do find discrepancies, please contact Joel Salter at jsalter@campusoutreach.org in the USA and Noma Lupuwana nomal@campusoutreach.org in RSA for clarification on your statement.

Can I give via EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)
Yes! Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) is a computerized system used by banks, organizations, and individuals to transfer funds directly from one bank account into another without the use of checks or other paper processes. With EFT you save time and money by not having to write checks, purchase stamps, or make trips to the post office. Click here to sign up for EFT in the USA or contact Noma Lupuwana to get the banking details in RSA.

Can I give via my credit card?
We are currently working on a way to accept Credit Card payments in the USA and should soon have that available. We do offer Electronic Funds Transfer, which automatically pulls your gift from a checking or savings account each month.
